Welcome to Nipples and Naps!
Hi! I’m Cora, a prenatal, birth, and postpartum doula, breastfeeding counselor, nutrition counselor, and mother of 3, all born at home, each in under 3 hours.
I grew up on an organic fruit farm in the Central Coast of California before settling in Austin, TX. I am a gemini, generator, bluegrass music fan, mushroom business owner, and a host of popular women’s cacao ceremonies. I offer virtual and in person prenatal, birth, postpartum, and lactation services. I am also known online for my unique real food nutrition program that has helped moms lose their baby weight, the healthy way, in 12 weeks or less.
My guiding principles around birth are simple: that women’s bodies work and women’s intuition about her body and her baby is more valuable than any test result. My training centers around the idea that the best birth outcomes happen when labor is undisturbed, mama is allowed to feel safe and supported, and decisions are made by the mama and respected.
You can book a free introductory call with me here to see how I can best support you on your mothering journey.
What Is A Doula?
A doula’s role is to support the mom in labor and birth. This support can be physical support, like massaging, providing nourishment, changing positions, breathing techniques, and acupressure. It can be emotional support like encouragement, praise, and positivity or processing birth. They can provide evidence-based information to guide you through your pregnancy and birth. Lastly, they can advocate and support you in your right to make decisions about your body and your baby.
Why Hire A Doula?
In 26 randomized trials, the effects of continuous labor support in the form of doulas was tested on more than 15,000 people giving birth. Evidence shows that people who receive continuous support are more likely to have a normal vaginal birth and less likely to have pain medication, negative feelings about childbirth, and Cesareans. Their labors are shorter and their babies are less likely to have complications. In these studies, the best results occurred when the support was provided by a trained doula, not a staff member at the hospital and not part of the mothers social network.
